The Latin America Employee Relations Group (LAMERG) provides a forum for both North and Latin America-based HR leaders of multi-national enterprises to discuss and share experiences on issues of shared concern. 


  • Provide a continuing source of information via monthly updates to member companies with an interest in in Latin America concerning:
      • Trends in employment practices, workforce development, talent management; and
      • Legal and policy developments.
  • Facilitate the network-building, information-sharing, and benchmarking of senior HR executives with responsibilities for employees in Latin America.
  • Provide a learning and training resource forum for HR and line managers to build competence in managing employee and labor relations issues.
  • Deliver access to best practices and emerging trends on Latin America supply chain concerns, including underage and forced labor risks in several sectors which have been identified as targets by local and international parties. 


  • Semi-annual meetings with a keynote speaker, case study presentations, country-specific panels and networking opportunities.
  • Web meetings and conference calls on timely issues of common interest and concern
  • Maintaining a list of key legal and consulting resources used and recommended by members
  • Shared community where specific questions can be privately posed to the members for quick response and insight


Steven Gilbert
Executive Director 

Steve Gilbert is the founder and executive director of the Latin America Employee Relations Group. He also serves as a Senior Advisor on Global Human Resources for the HR Policy Association. He has been responsible for Latin America HR activities for more than ten years, and was most recently the Sr. Director, Human Resources for Maersk Line while he was based in Panama, and also served as the head of Maerskā€™s Global Labour Relations Council. Steve was previously Vice President, Human Resources for the Americas for SCA Group and also for Messer Griesheim, a subsidiary of the former Hoechst.

Melissa Glatz
Chief Operations and Communications Officer

Melissa Glatz is the Chief Operations and Communications Officer for LAMERG, managing the day-to-day activities of the association, its Web site and other communications, and coordinating member events.  She has managed both the domestic and global labor relations training programs for HR Policy Association since 2007, as well as supporting HR Policy's membership engagement initiatives. Prior to joining HR Policy Association, Melissa contributed to the communications and community relations program for a top U.S. defense contractor. 

Andres Carrillo
Research Director

Andres Carrillo researches opportunities to bring Latin American businesses into the network, tracks local media for topics of interest, and ensures that our materials and newsletters are available in Spanish. Andres currently lives in Bogota, Colombia. A recent graduate of the MBA program at University of Notre Dame, he most recently worked in Corporate Strategy and Business Intelligence in a major software company in the United States. Prior to this, Andres worked in corporate banking, financial planning, and both as a freelancer and an entrepreneur in a number of business operations. 

HR Policy Association's Global HR Alliance

LAMERG is proud to be a part of the Global HR Alliance, which also includes the HR Policy Association in the United States, the Brussels Employee Relations Group (BEERG) in Europe, and the Asia-Pacific Employee Relations Group in Asia. This alliance provides regional expertise, training and networking opportunities to top HR officials at multi-national enterprises.
