LAMERG's long-promised meeting in Mexico City is confirmed for 22 May, 2019 (moved from 21 May).  We are partnering with the HR Policy Association and the law firm of Bufete Yllanes Ramos for the program.  This will be a full day program  and will take place in the Polanco section of Mexico City.

Approval of the comprehensive revisions to Mexico's labor laws is expected in April with an effective date of 1 May 2019.   The new rules will dramatically change the landscape for employers by phasing out protective agreements and adding transparency to Union representation and employee ratification processes.    Bufete Yllanes has been closely involved in advocating an employer perspective with the government and legislature regarding the new law and will bring deep insight into the future opportunities for employers.  Attendees at the LAMERG meeting in Miami met Fernando Yllanes, who will be participating at the session, and we are expecting other individuals involved with the process to provide a broader perspective.  Much of the meeting is likely to be delivered in Spanish, and presentation materials will be available in both Spanish and English.

We will also be exploring how employers are dealing with the new reality and the actions which they are taking to build more open relationships with employees and Unions.

Another topic of interest to many North American employers is what the opportunities may be to become union-free in Mexico. That topic, as well as potential risks, will also be covered.

There is no fee for LAMERG members to have up to three representatives attend the meeting.  HR Policy members may participate for US$500 for each attendee. If the company subsequently joins LAMERG those fees will be credited toward the annual membership fee.
